What is ER Stress & Unfolded Protein Response ?
ER stress occurs when misfolded proteins accumulate in the endoplasmic reticulum, activating the UPR to restore proteostasis. Three sensors—IRE1α, PERK and ATF6—orchestrate adaptive or apoptotic responses. Chronic ER stress drives diabetes, neurodegeneration and cancer, and UPR components are being explored as therapeutic targets.
