What is Second Messenger Systems ?
Second messengers are small intracellular molecules that relay signals from activated receptors to downstream effectors. Major systems include cAMP/PKA, cGMP/PKG, IP3/DAG/calcium and PI3K/PIP3. They amplify signals and integrate multiple inputs. Dysregulation of second messenger signaling underlies endocrine disorders, cancer and heart failure.
