What is Nuclear Transport ?
Nuclear transport is the selective, receptor-mediated trafficking of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm through nuclear pore complexes (NPCs). Importins and exportins recognize cargo via nuclear localization (NLS) or export (NES) signals and the Ran GTPase gradient. NPC defects and transport misregulation are linked to cancer, neurodegeneration (ALS) and viral pathogenesis.
