What is RNA Processing & Splicing ?
RNA processing converts pre-mRNA into mature mRNA through 5' capping, intron splicing and 3' polyadenylation. The spliceosome, a dynamic ribonucleoprotein complex, catalyzes splicing. Alternative splicing greatly expands the proteome. Splicing factor mutations are common in myelodysplastic syndromes and cancers, and splicing modulators are emerging therapeutics.
