Study the heat shock factor (HSF)-mediated transcriptional response, molecular chaperone induction and proteotoxic stress adaptation using CRISPR-engineered cell models.
What is Heat Shock Response ?
The heat shock response is a conserved cytoprotective program activated by proteotoxic stresses (heat, heavy metals, oxidants). HSF1 trimerization and binding to heat shock elements induces chaperones (HSP70, HSP90) that refold damaged proteins and prevent aggregation. This response is critical in stress adaptation and is co-opted by cancer cells for survival.
