What is Post-translational Modification ?
Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are covalent processing events that alter protein function, localization, stability and interactions after translation. Key modifications include phosphorylation, ubiquitination, acetylation, methylation, glycosylation and SUMOylation. Aberrant PTM patterns drive cancer, neurodegeneration and metabolic diseases, and the enzymes that write, read and erase these marks are major drug targets.
