What is Endocytosis & Exocytosis ?
Endocytosis brings extracellular material and membrane proteins into the cell, while exocytosis delivers newly synthesized and recycled components to the plasma membrane. These opposing processes maintain plasma membrane homeostasis, nutrient uptake, receptor signaling and neurotransmission. Defects contribute to metabolic disorders, neurodegeneration and cancer.
