What is PI3K-AKT Signaling ?
The PI3K-AKT pathway is a central signaling node activated by growth factors and insulin. PI3K generates PIP3, recruiting AKT to the membrane for activation. AKT phosphorylates numerous substrates controlling metabolism, survival and proliferation. Hyperactivation via PIK3CA mutations or PTEN loss is common in cancer, making it a major therapeutic target.
