What is Secretion ?
Secretion is the process of releasing proteins, hormones, neurotransmitters and extracellular vesicles from cells. The classical secretory pathway involves ER-to-Golgi transport and vesicle fusion at the plasma membrane via SNARE proteins. Specialized regulated secretion in neurons and endocrine cells enables rapid responses. Secretion defects underlie diabetes and immune deficiencies.
