What is Insulin Signaling & Diabetes ?
Insulin signaling through the insulin receptor/PI3K/AKT pathway regulates glucose uptake, glycogen synthesis and lipid metabolism. Insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction are hallmarks of type 2 diabetes, while autoimmune β-cell destruction underlies type 1 diabetes. CRISPR-engineered models allow dissection of signaling defects and testing of therapeutic interventions.
