What is Oncogenes ?
Oncogenes are genes with the potential to cause cancer when mutated or overexpressed. They typically encode growth factors, receptors, signal transducers or transcription factors (e.g., MYC, RAS, EGFR, HER2). Cancer cells often become 'addicted' to oncogene activity, creating therapeutic windows. CRISPR-based oncogene knockout validates their role in tumor maintenance.
