Description

SUMO3 encodes a member of the small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) protein family. SUMO3 is conjugated to target proteins as a post-translational modification (SUMOylation) to regulate nuclear transport, transcriptional activity, DNA repair, and stress responses. SUMO3 shares high sequence similarity with SUMO2 and can form poly-SUMO chains. The gene is located on chromosome 21q22.3.

Protein Summary

SUMO3 is a 103-amino acid protein (11.6 kDa) that is post-translationally processed to expose a C-terminal diglycine motif required for conjugation. It is ubiquitously expressed and localizes to the nucleus and cytosol. SUMO3 shares 96% sequence identity with SUMO2 and can form poly-SUMO chains via internal lysine residues. The protein is involved in nuclear transport, transcriptional regulation, DNA repair, and stress granule assembly.
