| Summary |
This gene encodes a component of high density lipoprotein that has no marked similarity to other apolipoprotein sequences. It has a high degree of homology to plasma retinol-binding protein and other members of the alpha 2 microglobulin protein superfamily of carrier proteins, also known as lipocalins. This glycoprotein is closely associated with the enzyme lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase - an enzyme involved in lipoprotein metabolism. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]

FAQ
Which is better for studying APOD function, APOD Knockout A-549 Cell Line or APOD overexpression A-549 Cell Line?
The choice depends on whether you are studying APOD in lung cancer context. The Knockout line is the standard tool for asking whether APOD is required for predicted activities in NSCLC context — APOD has been characterized in various cancer contexts with reported pro-survival functions. Overexpression is useful for studying APOD gain-of-function effects.
For lung cancer research, the EDITGENE APOD Knockout in A-549 is relevant. This product complements the parallel APOD Knockout in HEK293T (also available) for cross-background validation. Rescue with wild-type APOD is the standard specificity control. The knockout is valuable for studying APOD biology in cancer and emerging context-dependent APOD functions.
What are the application scenarios for this model?
Primary applications:
• Lung cancer biology: in NSCLC context, characterization of APOD's role in cancer cell biology.
• Cross-background validation: parallel analysis with APOD KO in HEK293T (also available).
• Cancer prognostic biomarker analysis.
• Discovery proteomics in lung cancer APOD-null versus rescued cells.
EDITGENE recommends this A-549 NSCLC model for researchers investigating APOD in lung cancer.
Is this APOD Knockout A-549 Cell Line compatible with overexpression rescue experiments?
Yes. APOD rescue in A-549 follows the same considerations as APOD/HEK293T:
• Construct design: same considerations as APOD/HEK293T rescue.
• Cross-background validation: parallel rescue in A-549 (lung cancer) and HEK293T provides cross-tissue validation.
• Functional readout: rescue should restore APOD-dependent phenotypes.
A-549 transduces efficiently with lentivirus and supports stable rescue line generation.
