Description
SLC2A4 (Solute Carrier Family 2 Member 4) encodes the insulin-responsive glucose transporter GLUT4. GLUT4 is primarily expressed in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and heart, where it facilitates glucose uptake in response to insulin stimulation. Translocation of GLUT4 from intracellular vesicles to the plasma membrane is a key step in glucose homeostasis.
