Description

TRIOBP encodes a protein that binds to TRIO and F-actin, playing a critical role in actin cytoskeleton organization. It is essential for the formation and maintenance of stereocilia in auditory hair cells. Mutations in TRIOBP cause autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss (DFNB28). The gene produces multiple isoforms through alternative splicing, with tissue-specific expression patterns.

Disease Associations

Protein Summary

The TRIOBP protein (UniProt Q9H2D6) is a 68 kDa actin-binding protein that interacts with TRIO and F-actin. It is involved in the organization of the actin cytoskeleton, particularly in the stereocilia of inner ear hair cells. Multiple isoforms exist due to alternative splicing, with isoform 1 being the longest. The protein contains coiled-coil domains and localizes to the cytoplasm and cytoskeleton.
