Description

TMPRSS9 (Transmembrane Serine Protease 9) encodes a type II transmembrane serine protease that contains multiple serine protease domains. The protein is involved in proteolytic processing of extracellular matrix components and may play a role in tumor progression and metastasis. Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms, including a secreted form (polyserase-1) and a membrane-bound form (MSPL).

Protein Summary

TMPRSS9 is a 1045-amino acid type II transmembrane serine protease with a short cytoplasmic tail, a transmembrane domain, and two tandem serine protease domains (S1 and S2). The protein is synthesized as a zymogen and activated by proteolytic cleavage. It is capable of degrading extracellular matrix components such as fibronectin and gelatin, suggesting a role in tissue remodeling and cancer invasion.
