Description

TCEA3 encodes a member of the transcription elongation factor A (SII) family. This protein is an RNA polymerase II elongation factor that facilitates transcriptional read-through by reactivating arrested RNA polymerase II complexes. It is involved in regulating gene expression during development and in response to cellular stress. TCEA3 is expressed in multiple tissues and has been implicated in cancer and developmental disorders.

Disease Associations

Disease category Pathophysiological mechanism Genomic evidence
Cancer (various types) Altered TCEA3 expression may affect transcriptional elongation of tumor suppressor or oncogenes, contributing to tumorigenesis. COSMIC; literature
Developmental disorders Mutations in TCEA3 may disrupt transcriptional regulation during embryogenesis. OMIM; literature

Protein Summary

TCEA3 is a 301-amino acid protein that contains a conserved SII-type zinc finger domain and a TFIIS central domain. It binds to RNA polymerase II and stimulates its ability to read through transcriptional pause sites. The protein is localized to the nucleus and is expressed in a variety of tissues, with highest levels in testis. TCEA3 plays a role in maintaining genomic stability by facilitating transcription elongation and may be involved in DNA repair processes.
