Description

TAS2R46 encodes a member of the TAS2R family of bitter taste receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed primarily in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate. This receptor responds to various bitter compounds, including denatonium and quinine, and plays a role in bitter taste perception and chemosensation.

• GPCR downstream signaling (Reactome: R-HSA-372790)

Protein Summary

TAS2R46 is a 317-amino acid integral membrane protein with seven transmembrane domains, characteristic of GPCRs. It is expressed in taste buds and extraoral tissues, where it mediates bitter taste signaling via activation of gustducin and downstream calcium mobilization.
