Description

TAS2R45 (Taste 2 Receptor Member 45) is a protein-coding gene that belongs to the TAS2R family of bitter taste receptors. These receptors are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed primarily in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate, where they detect bitter compounds. TAS2R45 has also been detected in extraoral tissues, suggesting roles beyond taste perception, such as in respiratory and gastrointestinal chemosensation. The gene is located on chromosome 12p13.2 and is intronless within the coding region.

Protein Summary

TAS2R45 encodes a 299-amino acid protein with seven transmembrane domains characteristic of GPCRs. The protein is a bitter taste receptor that couples to the G protein gustducin to activate downstream signaling cascades upon binding of bitter ligands. Expression is highest in taste buds, but low-level transcripts have been detected in several gastrointestinal and respiratory tissues. No specific ligands have been definitively identified for TAS2R45.
