Description

TAS2R43 (Taste 2 Receptor Member 43) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a member of the bitter taste receptor family. These G protein-coupled receptors are expressed on the surface of taste receptor cells and mediate the perception of bitter compounds. TAS2R43 is known to respond to various bitter substances, including saccharin, acesulfame K, and certain plant-derived compounds. Genetic polymorphisms in TAS2R43 contribute to individual differences in bitter taste sensitivity.

Protein Summary

TAS2R43 is a 299-amino acid G protein-coupled receptor with seven transmembrane domains. It is expressed primarily in taste receptor cells of the tongue and mediates bitter taste perception. The receptor couples to gustducin and other G proteins to activate downstream signaling cascades upon binding of bitter ligands. Polymorphisms in TAS2R43 contribute to inter-individual variability in bitter taste sensitivity.
