Description

SYT15 (synaptotagmin 15) is a protein-coding gene belonging to the synaptotagmin family, which is characterized by an N-terminal transmembrane region and two C-terminal C2 domains (C2A and C2B) that mediate calcium-dependent phospholipid binding. SYT15 is involved in vesicle trafficking, exocytosis, and calcium sensing. Alternative splicing generates two isoforms: SYT15A and SYT15B.

Protein Summary

Synaptotagmin 15 is a 426-amino acid protein with a molecular weight of approximately 48 kDa. It contains a transmembrane domain and two C2 domains (C2A and C2B) that bind calcium and phospholipids. The protein is thought to regulate calcium-dependent exocytosis and vesicle fusion, particularly in neuronal and secretory cells.
