Description

SUMF2 encodes sulfatase modifying factor 2, a paralog of SUMF1. It is involved in the post-translational activation of sulfatases by generating the formylglycine residue in the active site. Unlike SUMF1, SUMF2 has a more restricted substrate specificity and is not essential for general sulfatase activation. It is widely expressed and may play a role in modulating sulfatase activity in specific tissues.
