Description

STK17A (serine/threonine kinase 17a) encodes a member of the death-associated protein (DAP) kinase family. The protein, also known as DRAK1, is a nuclear serine/threonine kinase that positively regulates apoptosis. It is involved in the phosphorylation of myosin light chain and plays a role in cell death signaling, particularly in response to DNA damage. STK17A is expressed in various tissues and has been implicated in cancer and other diseases.

Protein Summary

STK17A (DRAK1) is a 448-amino acid serine/threonine kinase with a catalytic domain and a nuclear localization signal. It phosphorylates myosin light chain and other substrates to promote apoptosis. The protein is predominantly nuclear and is activated by DNA damage. Its expression is regulated in a tissue-specific manner, and alterations are linked to cancer progression.
