Description
STAB2 encodes stabilin-2, a large transmembrane receptor primarily expressed in liver sinusoidal endothelial cells and lymphatic endothelial cells. It functions as a scavenger receptor for hyaluronan, chondroitin sulfate, and other ligands, mediating clearance from the circulation. STAB2 also participates in angiogenesis, cell adhesion, and immune surveillance. Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms.

Protein Summary
Stabilin-2 (also known as HARE) is a 2551-amino acid transmembrane glycoprotein with multiple fasciclin, EGF-like, and laminin G domains. It binds and internalizes hyaluronan, chondroitin sulfate, and other ligands via clathrin-mediated endocytosis. The protein is critical for maintaining hyaluronan homeostasis and is implicated in liver sinusoidal endothelial cell function, lymphatic vessel integrity, and tumor angiogenesis.
