Description
The SRP14 gene encodes the 14 kDa subunit of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein complex that targets nascent secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) for co-translational translocation. SRP14 is a component of the SRP Alu domain, which mediates translational arrest upon SRP binding to the ribosome. The protein is essential for proper protein trafficking and cellular homeostasis.

Protein Summary
SRP14 is a 14 kDa protein component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). It forms a heterodimer with SRP9 and binds to the Alu domain of SRP RNA, contributing to the translational arrest function of SRP. The protein is highly conserved and ubiquitously expressed, playing a critical role in the early steps of protein secretion and membrane insertion.
