Description
SNX15 encodes a member of the sorting nexin family, which are involved in intracellular trafficking and endosomal sorting. The protein contains a Phox (PX) domain that binds phosphoinositides and mediates membrane association. SNX15 is implicated in endosome-to-Golgi transport and may play a role in cell signaling and receptor recycling.
Disease Associations
| Disease category | Pathophysiological mechanism | Genomic evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Cancer (various) | Altered expression may disrupt endosomal trafficking and signaling pathways, contributing to tumorigenesis. | COSMIC; limited direct evidence |
| Neurodegenerative disorders | Potential involvement in endosomal dysfunction, though specific mechanisms are not well established. | NCBI Gene; inferred from family function |

Protein Summary
SNX15 is a 324-amino acid protein containing a PX domain that targets it to endosomal membranes. It is involved in endosome-to-Golgi transport and may regulate the trafficking of receptors and signaling molecules. Expression is highest in testis, with lower levels in brain and other tissues.
