SLC25A5 (Solute Carrier Family 25 Member 5) encodes the ADP/ATP translocase 2 (ANT2), a nuclear-encoded mitochondrial inner membrane protein that catalyzes the exchange of ADP and ATP across the mitochondrial membrane. This exchange is essential for oxidative phosphorylation and cellular energy homeostasis. ANT2 also participates in the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) and apoptosis regulation. The gene is located on the X chromosome and is widely expressed, with highest levels in tissues with high energy demand.
