Description

SLC22A10 encodes a member of the solute carrier family 22 (organic anion transporter) subfamily. The encoded protein, OAT5, mediates the sodium-independent transport of organic anions such as estrone sulfate, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, and other sulfated conjugates. It is primarily expressed in the kidney and liver and may play a role in the renal clearance of endogenous and exogenous organic anions.

Protein Summary

SLC22A10 (OAT5) is a 551-amino acid transmembrane protein with 12 predicted transmembrane domains. It functions as an organic anion transporter, facilitating the uptake of sulfated steroid conjugates. The protein is localized to the plasma membrane and is expressed in kidney proximal tubules and liver. No disease-associated variants have been validated to date.
