Description

SEC11A encodes a catalytic subunit of the signal peptidase complex (SPC), which is located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. The SPC cleaves signal peptides from nascent proteins as they are translocated into the ER, a critical step in protein maturation and secretion. SEC11A is ubiquitously expressed and plays a role in cellular homeostasis and cancer progression.
