Description

The SCTR gene encodes the secretin receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) for the hormone secretin. It is a member of the class B (secretin family) of GPCRs. The receptor is primarily expressed in tissues such as the pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, and brain. Upon binding secretin, the receptor activates adenylate cyclase, increasing intracellular cAMP levels, which regulates pancreatic bicarbonate secretion, bile secretion, and other digestive processes. SCTR is also involved in cell proliferation and differentiation, and its dysregulation has been implicated in various cancers and gastrointestinal disorders.

Protein Summary

The secretin receptor is a 428-amino acid protein with seven transmembrane domains, characteristic of GPCRs. It has a large extracellular N-terminal domain involved in ligand binding. The receptor couples to Gs proteins, activating adenylate cyclase and increasing intracellular cAMP.
