Description
SAR1A encodes a small GTPase of the ARF family that is a core component of the COPII coat complex. It regulates the budding of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi apparatus. Activation by the guanine nucleotide exchange factor SEC12 promotes GTP binding, membrane association, and recruitment of SEC23/24 and SEC13/31 to form COPII vesicles.
