Description
S100A1 is a member of the S100 family of EF-hand calcium-binding proteins. It is predominantly expressed in cardiac and skeletal muscle, where it regulates calcium homeostasis, contractility, and energy metabolism. S100A1 interacts with the ryanodine receptor (RyR2) and SERCA2a, modulating sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium release and reuptake. It also plays roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, and cytoskeletal dynamics.
