Description

RND2 (Rho family GTPase 2) encodes a member of the Rho GTPase family, specifically the Rnd subfamily. Unlike classical Rho GTPases, Rnd proteins lack intrinsic GTPase activity and are constitutively active. RND2 is involved in actin cytoskeleton reorganization, cell migration, and neurite outgrowth. It is highly expressed in the brain and plays a role in neuronal development and plasticity. Altered expression has been implicated in various cancers.

• Signaling by Rho family GTPases (Reactome: R-HSA-194315)

Protein Summary

RND2 is a 225-amino acid protein belonging to the Rnd subfamily of Rho GTPases. It lacks intrinsic GTPase activity and remains constitutively bound to GTP. The protein regulates actin cytoskeleton dynamics, promoting cell rounding and inhibiting stress fiber formation. RND2 is critical for neuronal development, including neurite outgrowth and axon guidance. Its expression is tightly regulated, and dysregulation contributes to cancer cell migration and invasion.
