Description
RASD2 (RASD family member 2) encodes a member of the RAS superfamily of small GTPases. The protein, also known as Rhes (Ras homolog enriched in striatum), is predominantly expressed in the brain, particularly in the striatum. It functions as a molecular switch involved in signal transduction, regulating cell growth, differentiation, and survival. RASD2 has been implicated in neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington disease and in various cancers.

Protein Summary
RASD2 (Rhes) is a 266-amino acid small GTPase with a molecular weight of approximately 30 kDa. It contains conserved GTP-binding domains and a C-terminal hypervariable region. The protein is highly expressed in the striatum and modulates dopamine receptor signaling. It interacts with huntingtin protein and influences autophagy and apoptosis. In cancer, RASD2 promotes cell proliferation and migration through activation of PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK cascades.
