Description
RAB24 is a member of the RAS oncogene family of small GTPases. It is involved in intracellular vesicle trafficking, particularly in the autophagy pathway. RAB24 localizes to autophagic vacuoles and is implicated in the maturation of autophagosomes. Its expression is enriched in the brain, and alterations in RAB24 function have been linked to neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Pathways
• Autophagy - RAB24 is involved in autophagosome formation and maturation.
• Endocytosis - RAB24 regulates vesicle trafficking from endosomes to lysosomes.
Protein Summary
RAB24 is a small GTPase of the Rab family, approximately 22 kDa in size. It cycles between an active GTP-bound state and an inactive GDP-bound state. RAB24 is predominantly localized to the Golgi apparatus and autophagic vacuoles. It interacts with ATG proteins and is essential for autophagosome-lysosome fusion. Post-translational modifications include prenylation at the C-terminus, which is critical for membrane association.
