Description
PTPN1 encodes protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), a non-receptor phosphatase that negatively regulates insulin and leptin signaling by dephosphorylating the insulin receptor and JAK2. It is a therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes and obesity. PTPN1 also plays roles in cell growth, differentiation, and oncogenic signaling, with alterations linked to breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers.
