Description

PSD2 (pleckstrin and Sec7 domain containing 2) encodes a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that specifically activates ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs), small GTPases involved in vesicle trafficking, endocytosis, and cytoskeletal organization. The protein contains a Sec7 domain responsible for GEF activity and a pleckstrin homology (PH) domain that mediates membrane localization. PSD2 is widely expressed and plays a role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis and recycling of receptors.

Protein Summary

PSD2 is a 1009-amino acid protein containing an N-terminal Sec7 domain that catalyzes GDP-GTP exchange on ARF1, ARF5, and ARF6, and a C-terminal PH domain that binds phosphoinositides. It localizes to the plasma membrane and endosomes, regulating endocytic recycling and actin remodeling. The protein is ubiquitously expressed with highest levels in brain and testis.
