Description

PRSS41 encodes a serine protease of the trypsin family, predominantly expressed in testis. The protein contains a transmembrane domain and is predicted to function in proteolytic processing during spermatogenesis. Limited functional studies suggest a role in male fertility. The gene is located on chromosome 16p13.3 and is conserved in mammals.

Protein Summary

PRSS41 is a 359-amino acid transmembrane serine protease with a trypsin-like catalytic domain. It is predicted to be synthesized as a zymogen and activated by proteolytic cleavage. The protein is primarily expressed in testis and may participate in extracellular matrix remodeling or cell signaling during sperm maturation. Structural homology suggests a substrate preference for basic amino acids (trypsin-like).
