Description

PPIG encodes a member of the cyclophilin family of peptidylprolyl isomerases (PPIases). The protein catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides, facilitating protein folding. It also contains a serine/arginine (SR)-rich domain and is involved in pre-mRNA splicing as a component of the spliceosome. PPIG is widely expressed and has been implicated in viral replication and cancer biology.

Protein Summary

PPIG encodes cyclophilin G, a 754-amino acid protein with an N-terminal peptidylprolyl isomerase domain and a C-terminal SR-rich domain. It localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm, catalyzes proline isomerization, and participates in pre-mRNA splicing as part of the spliceosome. The protein interacts with HIV-1 integrase and is overexpressed in certain cancers, suggesting roles in viral replication and tumorigenesis.
