Description
PLGLB1 encodes a member of the plasminogen family of serine proteases. The protein is involved in fibrinolysis and extracellular matrix remodeling. It is expressed in liver and other tissues and has been implicated in cancer progression and metastasis.
Disease Associations
| Disease category | Pathophysiological mechanism | Genomic evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Cancer (various) | Altered expression may affect tumor invasion and metastasis via plasminogen activation | PubMed studies show overexpression in some cancers |
| Thrombotic disorders | Potential role in fibrinolysis dysregulation | Inferred from homology to plasminogen |

Protein Summary
PLGLB1 is a 91 kDa serine protease zymogen, structurally similar to plasminogen. It is activated by cleavage to form a two-chain active enzyme that degrades fibrin and other extracellular matrix components. Its precise physiological role remains less characterized than plasminogen.
