Description

PLA2G2C encodes a member of the secreted phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) family. This enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of the sn-2 position of glycerophospholipids to release arachidonic acid and lysophospholipids, which are precursors of eicosanoids and platelet-activating factor. The protein is involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and cell signaling.

Protein Summary

PLA2G2C is a secreted phospholipase A2 enzyme (sPLA2-IIC) that hydrolyzes phospholipids to release arachidonic acid and lysophospholipids. It is involved in lipid signaling, inflammation, and cellular responses. Expression is low in most tissues, with highest levels in testis and gastrointestinal tract. Mutations are rare and not well characterized.
