Description

PIPOX encodes a peroxisomal enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative demethylation of sarcosine (N-methylglycine) and the oxidation of L-pipecolic acid, a lysine degradation intermediate. The enzyme is a flavoprotein that uses FAD as a cofactor and produces hydrogen peroxide. PIPOX is involved in metabolic pathways and has been implicated in hyperpipecolic acidemia and certain cancers.
