Description

PDIA2 encodes a member of the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) oxidoreductases. The encoded protein catalyzes the formation, reduction, and isomerization of disulfide bonds in nascent proteins, facilitating proper protein folding and quality control in the ER. PDIA2 is highly expressed in the pancreas and is involved in the maturation of secretory proteins.

Protein Summary

PDIA2 is a 525-amino acid protein with a molecular weight of approximately 59 kDa. It contains two thioredoxin-like domains (a and a') with active site CGHC motifs, which mediate thiol-disulfide exchange. The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is involved in oxidative protein folding. PDIA2 is particularly abundant in pancreatic acinar cells, where it assists in the maturation of digestive enzymes.
