Description

PAIP2 encodes poly(A) binding protein interacting protein 2, a negative regulator of translation. It binds to poly(A)-binding protein (PABPC1) and inhibits its interaction with the poly(A) tail of mRNA, thereby repressing translation initiation and promoting mRNA deadenylation. PAIP2 is involved in the regulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level and plays a role in cellular processes such as proliferation and differentiation.

Protein Summary

PAIP2 is a 127-amino acid protein that contains a PABP-interacting motif. It competes with PABPC1 for binding to the poly(A) tail, leading to translational repression and mRNA decay. The protein is widely expressed, with highest levels in testis. Its structure includes a conserved PAIP2 domain essential for PABPC1 interaction.
