Description

P2RX3 encodes the P2X3 receptor, a ligand-gated ion channel activated by extracellular ATP. It forms homotrimeric channels or heterotrimers with P2X2, primarily expressed in sensory neurons. P2X3 mediates fast synaptic transmission in nociceptive pathways and is implicated in chronic pain, bladder dysfunction, and inflammatory conditions.
