Description

OPRD1 encodes the delta opioid receptor (DOR), a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that binds endogenous opioid peptides such as enkephalins and beta-endorphin. It mediates analgesic, antidepressant, and anxiolytic effects, and modulates pain perception, mood, and reward pathways. The receptor is primarily expressed in the central nervous system and peripheral sensory neurons.

Protein Summary

The delta opioid receptor (DOR) is a 372-amino acid transmembrane protein with seven alpha-helical domains. It couples primarily to Gi/o proteins, inhibiting adenylyl cyclase and modulating ion channels. DOR is involved in pain modulation, emotional behavior, and neuroprotection. Its structure and function are critical for developing targeted analgesics with reduced side effects.
