Description
NID2 encodes nidogen-2, a member of the nidogen family of basement membrane glycoproteins. Nidogen-2 binds to laminins, collagen IV, and perlecan, contributing to the structural integrity of basement membranes. It is involved in cell adhesion, migration, and tissue development. Altered expression is observed in various cancers and fibrotic diseases.

Protein Summary
Nidogen-2 is a 150 kDa glycoprotein that forms a dumbbell-shaped structure with three globular domains (G1, G2, G3). It bridges laminin and collagen IV networks in basement membranes. The G2 domain binds perlecan, while G3 interacts with laminin. Nidogen-2 is essential for basement membrane assembly during development and tissue homeostasis.
