Description

The NGFR gene encodes the low-affinity nerve growth factor receptor (p75NTR), a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily. It binds neurotrophins (NGF, BDNF, NT-3, NT-4) and modulates neuronal survival, apoptosis, axonal growth, and synaptic plasticity. NGFR also plays roles in non-neuronal tissues, including immune regulation and cancer progression.
