Description

NCOA1 (nuclear receptor coactivator 1) encodes a transcriptional coactivator that interacts with nuclear hormone receptors to enhance their transcriptional activity. The protein possesses histone acetyltransferase activity and is involved in chromatin remodeling, playing critical roles in development, metabolism, and hormone signaling. NCOA1 is also known as steroid receptor coactivator-1 (SRC-1).

Protein Summary

NCOA1 (SRC-1) is a 1441-amino acid nuclear receptor coactivator with intrinsic histone acetyltransferase activity. It contains multiple LXXLL motifs for receptor interaction, a basic helix-loop-helix domain, and a glutamine-rich region. The protein enhances transcription by recruiting additional coactivators and remodeling chromatin. It is widely expressed and plays key roles in hormone-dependent cancers and metabolic regulation.
