Description

MTMR1 encodes a member of the myotubularin family of dual-specificity phosphatases. The protein dephosphorylates phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PI3P) and phosphatidylinositol (3,5)-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2), regulating endosomal trafficking and membrane dynamics. It is highly expressed in skeletal muscle and plays a role in muscle cell differentiation and maintenance.
